Though CEO Jensen Huang said last month that its next GPU is a long time away, there have been several hints. Last month, Nvidia tweeted for Alan Turing’s birthday – a reference to its upcoming Turing architecture. Previously, a Lenovo product manager mentioned the GTX 11 series, and leaked GTX 1180 images have allegedly been floating around the web. The apparent engineering samples showcased Micron’s GDDR6 memory that was announced for mass production just a day before. As it’s unlikely a trickster would have such components, outlets are inclined to believe the card is coming soon.

GTX 1180 Spec Rumors

Of course, the specs of such a device are a mystery, but that hasn’t stopped the rumors. The current prediction is a clock speed between 1.6 and 1.8GHz, up to 16GB of memory, and 3,584 CUDA cores. The significance for gamers is the ability to run 4K games at 144Hz on a single card. That type of performance won’t come cheap, but it’s likely to beat current alternatives and work nicely with GSync. It’s entirely possible Nvidia has something else up its sleeve or is even creating artificial hype, but the 1180 theory is the best fans have so far.
