The Surface Pro LTE was announced back in May during an event in Shanghai. That was the same event where Microsoft officially launched the new Surface Pro. The Wi-Fi model of the device has been available for months, but the company said we would have to wait for the LTE variant. According to the report, Microsoft’s Surface Pro program manager, Tim Golik, confirmed the December 1 launch date at Ignite yesterday. Last month we reported that Microsoft would make Surface the focus of its keynote at Future Decoded next month. This means the company is almost certain to launch a new product. Surface chief Panos Panay will undoubtedly talk about the Surface Pro LTE, although we doubt it will be the focus of the event. However, it does mean we are unlikely to see a new Surface Pro launch. Some may argue that was obvious considering the existing Surface Pro launched in May. That leaves questions regarding which Surface device will get a bump. While the Surface Phone may generate more heat in the coming weeks, the most likely answer is the Surface Book. Microsoft’s hybrid laptop went through a spec bump last year, but in terms of design it is the same product that launched two years ago. It is arguably due an overhaul. Golik was asked about a new Surface Book at Ignite. He declined to answer specifics, although he teased that the audience should wait and see.
