Microsoft tipster WalkingCat has discovered a new page called Microsoft Edge Insider Addons, which seems to detail the extensions that will be available for Chromium Edge. The document shows Edge will be fairly well stocked from the start, with 82 Addons currently listed. Of course, it seems obvious Microsoft will add more extensions to the browser over time, especially considering Edge is now based on Chromium and can get most Chrome extensions. We still don’t know exactly when Microsoft will launch the preview of Edge on Chrome. However, the company has promised a first half of 2019 launch and we would not be surprised to see it come with Windows 10 April 2019 Update next month. https://twitter.com/h0x0d/status/1105991477795020800 Chromium-based Edge will launch on Windows 10 and will eventually come to other platforms. Microsoft has confirmed the browser will eventually arrive on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and macOS.

Chrome-Based Edge

Back in December, Microsoft announced it will abandon its EdgeHTML web rendering technology and move its Edge browser to Google’s Chromium technology. The idea is to give Edge more access to apps through web apps to better compete with Chrome. “Today we’re announcing that we intend to adopt the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge on the desktop to create better web compatibility for our customers and less fragmentation of the web for all web developers,” said Microsoft CVP Joe Belfiore said at the time.
