This finalized build has already passed through the Alpha, Beta, and select Delta Insiders. After this testing phase, Microsoft has now sent the Xbox One Fall Update to the Preview Delta and Omega branches. For Xbox Insider Program members, this means the RTM version is available to all Insiders. For reference, the build number is 1710.171009. The release comes with Microsoft’s overhauled dashboard for the Xbox One. The new UI adds customization options such as “Content Blocks” and a new Xbox Guide. With the latter change, Microsoft has added horizontal navigation and a new Light Theme.
— Brad Rossetti (@WorkWombatman) October 11, 2017 For the new look, Microsoft is using Fluent Design elements. This is part of a general overhaul of Windows 10, bringing a smoother and cleaner aesthetic. Gamers may take a little longer than PC users to get used to the new design, and Microsoft has been tweaking it based on Insider feedback over recent months.
Fluent Design Influence
The core principles of Fluent Design are Material, Light, Scale, Depth and Motion. We expect Microsoft to make animations smoother on the console. However, as we always mention with Fluent Design, it is an in-development UI. That means Microsoft is evolving the design, so it is unclear which elements will drop with the Fall Update. Xbox Avatars are also getting a revamp. Microsoft will be revamping somewhat forgotten features. While Xbox Avatars were a big part of Xbox 360, they’ve fallen into the background with Xbox One. Microsoft is looking to change that with a full overhaul. The changes include more customization options, better integrations and a more dynamic look and feel.
