Other guarantees of Azure DocumentDB is 99.99% high availability, multiple well-defined consistency models, and predictable throughput. Microsoft says its updated SLA ensures that Azure DocumentsDB continues to provide to customers. The company’s globally distributed database platform brings limitless scale and fast performance. At default, the service can automatically index data it ingests and serves across SQL, MongoDB, and JavaScript language-integrated queries in a scale-independent manner. With new comprehensive SLA, Microsoft is offering the following benefits:
Availability: The most classical SLA. Your system will be available for more than 99.99% of the time or you get refund. Throughput: At a collection level, we guarantee the throughput for your database collection is always executed according to the maximum throughput you provisioned. Latency: Since speed is important, we guarantee that 99% of your requests will have a latency below 10ms for document read or 15ms for document write operations. Consistency: We ensure that we will honor the consistency guarantees in accordance with the consistency levels chosen for your requests.
Microsoft says this level of SLA is an industry first. Most customers will be familiar with SLA for uptime or financial guarantees, but it is new for the agreements the company is now introducing.
Implementing SLAs in Azure DocumentDB
The company explains that implementing the new SLA’s in Azure DocumentDB difficult. Equally, making sure users get a transparent service was also a challenge. However, Microsoft says it is committed to full transparency on uptime, latency, throughput, and the number of requests and failures. As there will be occasions when the SLA’s will not honoured, Microsoft will give customers from 10% to 25% off their monthly bill.
