Microsoft-published titles, while significant, have been plagued with issues. The biggest blow came with the cancellation of Scalebound, for which the reasoning remains vague. The anticipated Crackdown 3 was then pushed back to 2018, all after promising an ‘exciting year of exclusives’. None of it was good news for fans, and Xbox head Phil Spencer has now addressed that. “We need to grow, and I look forward to doing that,” he told Bloomberg on Monday. “Our ability to go create content has to be one of our strengths. We haven’t always invested at the same level. We’ve gone through ups and downs in the investment.”
Unannounced Exclusives
The question now is what the Redmond giant will do about it, and it has an answer for that, too. “I think our offering is good and it is solid. I definitely hear that gamers want more. Would we love to have two-dozen more super-strong, absolutely exclusives? You bet,” said the head of Xbox’s first-party development, Shannon Loftis, to GameSpot. “We do have more coming; more that are in the works that we’re not talking about now. But I feel good about what we have to offer for the launch.” Now that milestone is complete, gamers will be looking for continued support and developers are poised to give it. In total, 160 titles are being enhanced for the Xbox One X, many in 4K. Going forward, we can expect most new titles to make full use of the hardware, especially Microsoft’s first party exclusives. Forza 7 runs at a stunning 4K, 60fps, and Microsoft Studios will strive to meet that with its upcoming titles. Thanks to Xbox Play Anywhere, that will also mean great new games for the PC.
