This feature is currently in testing for Android users running the Edge beta experience. With this tab counting ability, users can see how many open tabs they have at a glance. Again, it is a simple addition, but one most will agree is welcome. The counter is located on the tabs icon at the bottom of the menu bar. As for when we can expect this to reach the full app, we guess it will happen soon. For now, the tab counter is available to beta users through version v42.0.0.2519. It is worth mentioning some users are reporting seeing the ability on their full release app. Considering Microsoft Edge is enjoying success on Android, we guess Microsoft is going to drop updates and new features frequently. Last month, we reported the browser has overtaken Google’s own Chrome browser in terms of rating score on Android.
Increasing Android Exposure
There’s two things to consider here. Firstly, Chrome is Android’s default browser, and secondly, a better rating does not necessarily explain how many people are using each browser. However, there’s no doubt Chrome is dominant on its home ecosystem. That said, Microsoft Edge is obviously performing well on Android. The browser has a 4.4 (out of 5) rating on the platform, not bad for a service that only landed on Android in 2017. Since then, Edge has been adopted over 5 million times. That’s way short of Chrome (which is on all Android devices) and Firefox, which has been downloaded over 100 million times. Incidentally, Mozilla’s browser rival also has a score rating of 4.4 in the Google Play Store.
