According to Microsoft, web content filtering is coming to Microsoft Defender ATP as a standard feature. This means organizations won’t need to have any additional licenses or costs on top of the regular service. Web content filtering is driven by Microsoft Defender ATP and is available in the Microsoft Edge browser. Furthermore, the tool will also work on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. It is worth noting the feature has been in preview but is now reaching general availability. Below are some of the core features of web content filtering:
“Users are prevented from accessing websites in blocked categories, whether they are browsing on-premises or away You can conveniently deploy varied policies to various sets of users using the device groups defined in the Microsoft Defender ATP role-based access control settings You can access web reports in the same central location, with visibility over actual blocks and web usage”

Microsoft Defender ATP was launched in 2016 and was known as Windows Defender back then. The service provides an early barrier against cyberattacks, detecting and dealing with incoming threats on enterprise networks. Now that the service is available across platforms, it was rebranded as Microsoft Defender this year. Last month, Microsoft expanded the security service to Google’s Android platform. Microsoft says the software will help protect mobile users from malicious apps, websites, and phishing attacks.
