Chinese regulators have suspended Bing for seven days, citing the service’s auto-suggest ability as the problem. Reuters reports the official Bing China site has confirmed the suspension. Microsoft says it remains committed to providing the search platform in China: “Bing is a global search platform and remains committed to respecting the rule of law and users’ right to access information.”

Bing has fallen foul of China’s fickle, strict, and confusing regulations before. Back in December, the government put a suspension on the search engine. During June last year, the Tank Man from Tiananmen Square went missing on Bing and LinkedIn. One of the most famous photos ever happened to be removed on the anniversary of the event. Microsoft put that incident down to human error, but it is unclear if the company faced pressure from officials in China. Microsoft and indeed other companies have to go through significant censorship before their products can be used in China. It is the same for movies, music, TV, games, and all other forms of media. Earlier this month, Microsoft debuted a new Azure region in China. It is the fifth Azure cloud region to become available in China, providing native datacenter support in Hebei in North China.
