The company says it high-end Ryzen 3, 5, 7 and Threadripper models will have reductions of up to 30%. Launched last year, the Ryzen series was AMD taking the fight to Intel for the first time in years. The line of processors are hot performers and have been successful. Indeed, they pushed AMD to its first profit in years. The series has also made the CPU market competitive. AMD clearly thinks it can get more of the action by enticing customers with price cuts. People looking for the AMD Threadripper 1900X should consider taking the plunge now. The CPU is not affordable, so a discount from $549 to $449 will certainly help. However, AMD says the higher-end 1950X and 1920X will remain at $999 and $799 respectively. The Ryzen 1800X was an instant classic when it launched thanks to its record breaking performance on the Cinebench R15 benchmark. It will make a good CPU for customers making a gaming rig, and it is now available for $349.
Future Chips
AMD also priced its upcoming Ryzen APU series, which will be for lower-end gaming and performance. The Ryzen 3 2200G will cost $99, while the Ryzen 5 2400G will get a $169 sticker price. Of course, the Ryzen series is nearing a year old, so there is speculation an update will be announced shortly. It certainly makes sense why AMD is cutting prices of the existing models. The new Ryzen chips are believed to be called Zen+ and are expected to launch in April.
